Teaching water-saving and sustainability in Iraqi Kurdistan
Young researcher Ashti arrives in her village to learn about the water usage habits of its inhabitants and propose solutions to prevent water shortages.
By helping her grandma in her garden and assisting her cousin on a large-scale farm, Hana discovers more about the impact of various agricultural practices.
A pair of educational games was developed in cooperation with People in Need and Iraqi authorities in 2023 and 2024. These games are currently being used in local schools, along with an accompanying teaching methodology.
Ashti and Hana:
Provide an attractive way to teach students about important topics that impact their community.
Combine light puzzles with research-backed information about irrigation systems, water-conservation approaches, or soil preservation practices.
Task students with devising their own water-saving plan.
Developed as a mobile-first project with low hardware requirements.
Highlight how meaningful games can arise from cooperation with local authorities.
